We raise Narragansett turkeys. The breed was named for Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island. They are on the "threatened" list.
Heritage turkeys weigh, on average, 12 pounds for toms and 9 pounds for hens. They are more proportionate than the larger or commercial breeds. They have smaller breasts and therefore less white meat. What they lack in size they more than make up for in flavor.
If you are interested in a heritage turkey but need more than the average 11 pound turkey consider purchasing two of them. That also gives you the opportunity to cook them two different ways. Roasted, fried, grilled or brined, anyway you cook them you won't be dissapointed.
